Rescued Golden Retriever Goes To The Store To Pick Out His First Toy – Touching Moment
Dog goes to the store and picks his first toy
Sometimes the smallest gesture can mean the world to a dog. It’s hard to deny that life for all types of pampered pets can be pretty sweet. However, a lot of them are spoiled later in life because their beginnings were much, much different. Like other rescued dogs, Roo is a 1-year-old rescued Golden Retriever who never had any toys, or so much as anything to chew. She grew up imprisoned, starved and neglected.
Still very much a puppy, she’d spent her entire life denied even the most basic pleasures, including a plaything to call her own. At the beginning of Roo’s story, she was just a panicked, scared puppy at a Los Angeles shelter, where she was deemed unfit for adoption and scheduled for euthanasia. Luckily, a rescue volunteer came to Roo’s aid and was able to save her just in the nick of time. Roo was adopted by Brian Beker, who ended up writing a book about their experience called Notes from a Dog Rescue in Progress. Roo has come a long way from her early days in the shelter, but as you can see in the video, she’s really getting the hang of her new lifestyle. In this clip, Roo gets to go to the toy store with Beker for the very first time to pick out her very own toy.
Dog Who Never Knew Love
Roo is delighted to be searching through the pet store. The Golden Retriever takes her time sniffing through the frisbees, then tennis balls, before she finally finds her perfect choice. This moment is even more special because Roo was once abandoned. Her foster parent wanted her to experience the joy that not all dogs get to experience. There’s a first time for everything – and in Roo’s case, it’s knowing that she’s loved. She can pick any one she wants and after much exploring, I think she picks a really good one! Watch the video, this is the first time she gets to choose her own toy!
Seeing this formerly homeless, terrified dog have so much fun and experience such love in his life today makes me so happy. Hopefully, their story can inspire a few others, as well.
