Smokey, no doubt, is the most thankful of all to have such a good friend in Remus. Thankfully, Remus was there, and he knew exactly what to do.

Dogs are often referred to as ‘man’s best friend’, and for good reason. Our four-legged friends are fiercely loyal, selflessly giving and, more often than not, eager to please humans. Of course, such traits can sometimes extend to other dogs as well. Heroes come in all shapes and sizes; it’s really just the heart that matters. And this sweet pup clearly has plenty of it. Recently, Smokey the dog had his canine friend Remus over at the house for a playdate, but then something scary happened. Smokey isn’t such a strong swimmer, so he typically just wades on the steps of his family’s pool, but on this day he ended up falling in near the deep end.
Unable to navigate his way back out, Smokey seemed at serious risk of drowning. But Remus is a quick thinker, and realised the danger. He darted to the edge of the pool and tried to get his friend out of the water. Unfortunately, nothing worked. Smokey’s owner, inside the house, failed to notice — but Remus knew just what to do. That’s when he made a bold decision. Remus jumped into the pool and swam over to the distressed Smokey. He swam round to the back of his friend and started to push him towards the edge. After a few seconds of struggling, Smokey was able to get out onto land once again.
In an extraordinary display of doggy heroism captured on the home’s surveillance camera, Remus leapt in to save the day. The dramatic video above was first shared by Smokey’s owner, Reddit user blackandwhitechecker. She told that her family was inspired to check the video after seeing Smokey all wet, since they know he’s not a fan of swimming. “When we saw the footage we were amazed and our hearts filled with joy,” she said. “My best friend (Remus’ owner) cried when we sent her the video. She says he’s a certified lifeguard now.” Watch the video, one way to be a hero is to act of courage, and this dog definitely did that!
