He fought a bull with child in his arms! (Video)

If bullfighting wasn’t brutal and dangerous enough already, an amateur Portuguese bullfighter just shocked the world by challenging a bull in the street with a young child in his arms. In the shocking footage he waves a pink cape in front of the animal with his left arm – while holding the youngster in his right. The child was thrown from side to side as the bull, which had rope tied to one of its horns, charged at them. It happened in the municipality of Santa Cruz on Terceira, one of the islands that make up the Azores archipelago.

Anti-bullfighting association Basta said it was informed of the case on the same day that the abolition of bullfighting was rejected by the Portuguese Parliament. The bill, tabled by an animal rights MP Andre Silva, received just 31 votes in Portugal’s 230-seat parliament last week. The association has also lodged a formal complaint with Portugal’s National Commission for the Promotion and Protection of Children and Young People’s Rights. It has called on authorities to identify the man carrying the child, as he is thought to be its father.

Bulls are not killed in the ring in Portugal, unlike Spain, but out of sight of the public afterwards. Basta described the incident in a statement as a “situation of total irresponsibility and a clear violation of the legislation that protects children in Portugal, as well as the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.”  It added: “The authorities in the Azores should investigate this case and identify the individual who appears in the video.” Watch the video, how can this father do such a thing?
