An excellent foster dad to two abandoned puppies (Video)

Oliver the Rottweiler was just three months old when he was found wandering around London’s Hyde Park. It is believed he was cruelly dumped by his owners at the time because he was blind, which would have made it harder for a breeder to sell him on. He was taken in by Battersea Dogs and Cats Home where staff decided to call him Oliver in honour of Oliver Twist due to his cheeky habit of always demanding ‘more’ after meals.

Following a tough start to life, Oliver found a new home in time for last Christmas with a family in south-east London. A year later, Oliver has grown into a gentle giant who has made an excellent foster dad to two abandoned puppies. The mongrel puppies, called Peter and Chris, were rejected by their mom at birth. But they have found a wonderful foster parent in Oliver and both are thriving. In fact, they are doing so well that both have now found homes in time for Christmas.

More than ten times the size of his foster puppies

Rebecca Lodder, rehoming and welfare manager at Battersea, said there was ‘something really special’ about Oliver helping to raise the puppies ahead of their own first Christmas. ‘Oliver isn’t the most likely candidate to become a foster father. Not only is he completely blind, but he also is a very impressive seven stone (50kg) in size; more than ten times the size of his foster puppies. He really goes to show that looks can be deceiving as he’s been so gentle with Peter and Chris, teaching them how to play and curling up with them for regular nap times.’ she said.
