Breeder ‘Can’t Sell’ Puppy So Tries To Put Him Down, But One Woman Wouldn’t Let Him!
She refused to give up on him! (Video)
Puppies are some of the purest creatures on this planet. There is nothing a puppy loves more than being with their human. Because puppies are tiny and cute, depending on the breed, there can be a huge issue with overbreeding in puppy mills. The issue isn’t just too many puppies in one space. According to PETA, breeding puppies for profit can come at a high cost. The puppy’s health. One health issue that many breeders have seen is Swimmer’s Syndrome. The term ‘swimmer’ is used to describe a puppy that paddles his legs much like a turtle, but is unable to stand. The limbs are splayed out in opposite directions, giving the animal the impression that they’re constantly swimming. This deformity makes it impossible for dogs to walk, and they can only move their legs in paddling motions.
A puppy should be standing and walking by three weeks of age. As a result of weak muscles in the rear limbs, swimmers are generally unable to stand at the normal age. Sadly, Swimmer’s Syndrome is like a death sentence to most puppies, especially ones that are with people who do not have the time to care for a sick animal. When Casper was born, his breeder immediately realized something was wrong with him. He was unable to sell him, so he was scheduled for euthanasia. But then Gina Gould got a call from Coastal German Shepard Rescue letting her know about Casper. Rather than let everyone give up on Casper, Gina immediately stepped in. Gina, an Acuscope Biotechnician, got Casper and brought him to a veterinarian. This video is a testament to what happens when someone takes the time to care!
She knew she had a fighter!
The doctor was concerned about Casper’s health. he told Gina: “We usually ethanize puppies with Swimmer’s Syndrome. His diagnosis was that his heart was very weak, his pulse was faint, he was lethargic and not a good prospect for survival. Maybe he’d walk in three months, but chances are he won’t, if he survives.” Determined to give the puppy a chance at life, Gina took Casper home with a plan in mind. To her, every life matters, and she was ready to commit her time, patience, and energy to Casper’s well-being. He wasn’t very responsive, so she feared that he was also deaf, which wasn’t a good sign. Gina feared that Casper wouldn’t even make it through the night, but when she woke up the next morning, it was like she was meeting a brand new puppy. Watch the video, Gina was able to document his progress and as you can see, with love, therapy, and special attention and care, Casper made an incredible recovery!
