Chained Up His Whole Life, This Dog Was Saved And Made an Incredible Recovery!
With a lot of care and love, he looks completely different! (Video)
This poor dog, named Odin, spent his whole life being chained up. He was kept outdoors in chains and in deplorable conditions by a pair of breeders who horribly neglected several of their dogs. Odin was in very, very bad shape. When rescuers first saw him, he wasn’t even recognizable as an Alaskan Malamute. Instead of a fluffy, black and white dog, Odin was grey, nearly hairless, and skinny to the point that his skin was hanging off his frame.
The scene was like something out of a nightmare. Odin was clinging to life, severely underweight, with several skin infections, mange, intestinal worms, heartworms, and extremely broken teeth. He was hardly recognizable as a dog, much less a majestic malamute. The Southern Pines Animal Shelter and Southern Cross Animal Rescue of Mississippi, who rescued Odin, knew that the dog needed to be rushed to the vet and given special care in a loving foster home. He was placed with Sydney Schelkopf as a foster. He came to her home tired, with a repulsive smell caused by his skin infections, and without any clue as to how to behave like a dog. Sydney’s heart broke for him.
She gave him all the love she had
This poor dog didn’t even know how to act when he arrived in his foster home. He was confused by his newfound freedom to walk around and be off of his chain. She wasn’t even sure if he had ever been in a house before. It seemed as though Odin had never been allowed to just be a dog before. For weeks after, he would just lay in a spot. Sydney couldn’t get him to play with toys or act like a ‘normal dog.’ As Odin realized he was safe and welcome inside Sydney’s home, he began to warm up to her. Odin’s spirit was healing, but physically, he had a long way to go. Watch the video, Odin’s transformation is absolutely incredible. He looks completely unrecognizable and like a completely different dog.
Odin is finally living the life he always deserved, and Sydney is helping him remember how to be a dog as he heals.
This woman had agreed to take him in and love him, even if just for a little while, and for that, Odin was eternally grateful.
