Battling sickness is not easy; there will be times where you will feel that you are ready to lose all hope but you just have to fight and sometimes, an angel is sent to cheer you up. At Port Kembla Hospital, a charming deaf bulldog named George loves to visit palliative care patients and putting a smile on their faces. He is a naturally gifted palliative care dog who is able to sense the emotional needs of exhausted patients and comfort them with his soothing presence and unconditional love! He doesn’t even need a leash and didn’t attend any training. He’s a natural in making people feel happy.

Owner Jai Wilson, who runs a local rescue for deaf dogs, believes that battling an all-consuming sickness can be the most soul-crushing time for any human being. Jai has lost both her parents to cancer, and this made her realize the importance of therapy dogs in the lives of dying patients. To cope up with her pain and grief, Jai adopted a puppy. What’s amazing is that this little puppy’s birthday is May 8, which is also the birthday of Jai’s father – George Wilson –. Now you know where he got his name! She had depression and this little bundle of joy changed her life! Though, that’s not all, who would have thought this beautiful dog would help patients smile?

“He was great for me when I was dealing with grief and loneliness after my dad’s death,” said Jai. The patients from Port Kembla Hospital adore George! He’s a darling and for the past 2 years, Jai and George would visit the patients in the hospital. It’s already a part of their routine and George wouldn’t go to the hospital without his fancy outfits! Some patients would just hug him, pet him, even talk to him.
