The incident occurred in San Miguelito, Panama, when Manuel was just on his way home from walking his dog Fulo. A heavy rainstorm hit their area and caused the river Sinai to overflow.
As he explained, the two were about to cross an overflowing river when his dog ran away from him and slipped into the water. Immediately, Mr. Calderon jumped in as well and managed to catch up with Fulo before throwing him to safety on a nearby bank. “I was focused on the dog. And thank God I managed to grab him, some meters later, I threw him onto the bank and got out some meters later,” he said. As the brave dog owner added, he didn’t have the time to think about what could have happened to him if he jumped into the raging water.

Following the rescue, Manuel was praised by social media users who applauded him for risking his life to save his dog. As local media also reported, the man, who grew up without parents, is an animal lover who joined the Department of Animal Welfare.
