Dog plays with toys for the first time (Video)

Being a dog should be about the simple things in life. Taking walks, hanging out with their favorite humans and friends, and playing with toys. Sadly, Snowball didn’t have that chance… until The Humane Society rescued him along with 22 other dogs that were waiting for slaughter in South Korea. It’s kind of hard to believe, but there are actually people out there who make a living out of farming dogs to be eaten. For Snowball and the other dogs, the new year ushers in a new life, in a new country, with new and hopeful prospects as beloved companions. They will not be someone’s dinner.

These actions are part of a broader field of battle against the dog meat trade, in China, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, and elsewhere. Thankfully, there are organizations like the Humane International Society that are starting to do something about it. The thought of this sweet baby crammed into cages with other precious dogs, destined to be murdered just breaks me. The thought that they never get to play fetch, never know the love of a human, and never play with toys just destroys me. But then this! Keep in mind Snowball has never even seen a toy before. At one moment during the video, the pup hears a loud noise and is startled.

Although he resumes playing, you can tell the emotional turmoil and scars that have been left on him. Snowball had never played with a toy before but has managed to pick up the concept of it quite quickly! Let me warn you, you’re gonna want tissues by your side when you watch this! Snowball is so sweet and adorable.  The Humane International Society will continue its efforts to try and rescue more dogs from such a fate in the coming months.
