Dramatic Police Bodycam Footage Shows The Rescue Of 2 Elderly Men And Their 3 Dogs
Dramatic police bodycam footage (Video)
The latest flood emergency in Australia has been dramatically depicted in footage of a police rescue of two men and their dogs from a vehicle trapped in rising waters at Morwincha, west of the Gold Coast. The officers were among those to respond to a nearby traffic crash when they got the call about a van washed away on a flooded bridge less than 1km away.
The frightening video was captured just after 4pm after police had attended the scene of a fatal traffic crash on the Cunningham Highway. They arrived at the scene to see the van wedged against a tree, with one of the men clinging to the passenger door. Police had to wade through more than 100m of floodwaters to reach the van. One of the officers was able to bring the man and one of the dogs – an as yet unnamed puppy – to safety. He then came back to the van, put the second man on his back and carried him to dry land.
Frantic moment
The other officers were able to coax the other two dogs, a kelpie and a great dane, out of the submerged vehicle. The dogs are with Queensland police until they can go home when the flooding situation improves. Police again urged the public to avoid roads, creeks and bridges likely to be impacted by rapidly rising water, storm debris and flood damage during the current wet weather.
