German Shepherd and Tortoise Rescued After Getting Stuck in a Backyard Tunnel
Firefighters try to rescue dog from tunnel (Video)
Tracy Arballo’s German shepherd, Taylor, is a big fan of playing fetch, chasing after her toys, and being her usual rambunctious self. The Arballo family lives in Fontana, California. There’s a long tunnel that runs underneath the concrete patio in their backyard. One day, Taylor wound up several feet deep in the tunnel. Though she’d normally be able to find her way out of such a predicament with ease, this particular day was different.
On that day, firefighters responded to a report of a man and dog falling into a hole. By the time they arrived at the address, the man had already escaped from what turned out to be a tunnel that had been dug by the family’s pet, a 80-pound tortoise called Godzilla! Unfortunately, the dog was still trapped because Godzilla was in Taylor’s way. Godzilla is also the one who apparently dug the tunnel in the family’s backyard. When Taylor tried squeezing her way out of the tunnel, she was met with Godzilla’s stubborn presence.
They were trapped side by side
It seemed the tunnel wasn’t big enough for the both of them, so the dog and tortoise ended up tightly wedged in the tunnel about 6 feet from the entrance. They were trapped side by side and in desperate need of assistance. The entire family, along with the rescue crew, spent 30 minutes trying to get Godzilla to move. But he just wouldn’t budge. Rescuers dug as much dirt as they could from around the animals, then placed lettuce in front of Godzilla in an attempt to get the tortoise to move. Watch the video,
firefighters believe that Taylor dragged a blanket into the tunnel and then entangled Godzilla, trapping both animals.
As you’ll see in the rescue video, a little bit of lettuce went a long way.
Both animals were unharmed.
