The child shared his opinion with his mom after visiting the zoo. For most children visiting the zoo is a magical time filled with wonder at the sight of so many bizarre and unusual creatures. But not for Ollie Augustus, from Victoria, who was appalled at the idea of locking innocent animals “in jail” when they haven’t even been naughty.

In a heart-melting rant, the three-year-old boy takes down the zoo industry, describing owners as “not nice people” and saying the animals “just want to be free“. Ollie became angry after mother Kylie took him to the Healesville Sanctuary, a conservation zoo 65km outside Melbourne, Australia. This little boy had some strong words for zookeepers. Ollie shared his perspective about what he had seen in the zoo with his mom. He didn’t mince words, comparing zoos to prisons, not understanding what animals had done to deserve being locked up in them.

After getting home, he explained his issues to friends and family as they filmed him. He said: “These people are not nice people. The people who own the animals. But then they are nice, but they just don’t know that [they’re being mean].’ That is not right. That is like jail. They [animals] are not being naughty, they just want to get out.
