An emotional reunion! (Video)

Bruno, a six-year veteran with the Anaheim Police Department, faced a life-threatening situation when he was shot in the face while chasing down a suspect. The German Shepherd was gravely wounded during a SWAT team mission as cops in Anaheim, California, were tracking a dangerous probation violator. No one could find the man until the dog caught the scent and led his master, officer RJ Young straight to the gunman’s hiding place behind a trash dumpster. The dog selflessly through himself in the line of fire, and while the suspect was killed in the gunfire, Bruno was a hero that saved the lives of the other officers. His partner RJ Young was understandably distraught over how the situation played out.

After being shot, the German shepherd returned to his handler, Officer RJ Young, “whimpered once and was ready to return to the action,” according to a statement from the department.“It was a horrific thing to have to watch,” told RJ Young. “My entire world came tumbling down in the matter of a second.”  The dog was immediately taken to the hospital. The bullet had shattered his jaw and lodged in his chest damaging a lung and stopped less than an inch from his heart. But, miraculously, Bruno pulled through. He underwent two surgeries before he could be taken off his breathing tube. They repaired his broken jaw, and removed part of his lung.

A touching moment!

While Bruno is healthy, he’s now retired from service and has been adopted by Officer Young and his family. Officer Young explains- “He’s like a son to me. Bruno will be with me for the rest of my life.” Officer Young’s new partner is a two-year-old named Yukon. His family and friends just keep expanding! The bond that partners share is special, even when one is an animal. Cameras were there on the day Young was finally able to take his partner home from hospital. Young said, “He’s like a son to me.
