Seal jumps onto boat. This seal escaping killer whales will give you heart palpitations!
Seal jumps onto boat
A quick-thinking seal has made a lucky escape from a killer whale – and the delightful moment was all captured on video. Suddenly, a little seal hopped onto their boat in a final act of desperation. The surprising occurrence happened during a whale-watching tour on the Campbell River in British Columbia. Tour guide Nick Templeman said they had been watching a pod of orcas for about 30 minutes when suddenly group went into ‘hunting mode’ – a seal was right by them.
As if a seal jumping on your tour boat wasn’t exciting enough, things got even more interesting for this sightseeing group. About a dozen orcas started circling the boat looking to find their prey. “We had four or five orcas all at once sitting at the back of the boat straight up and down sort of looking at the seal,” said Templeman. “They would dive and they would all disappear — about 12 of them — and you can see shape after shape trying to come up from under the boat.”
The experience was somewhat nerve wracking!
“That was my first time ever seeing killer whales… I’ve never seen anything like it, I don’t think anybody else has ever seen anything like it,” said Fraser, one of the passengers. However the whales eventually gave up and, amazingly, the seal was able to get away. “It was an amazing and intense encounter — the seal is the survivor,” he said. While the video shows the seal struggling to get on the boat, Fraser said they didn’t want to interfere. “We obviously weren’t going to touch the seal, we weren’t going to interfere with anything.”
