Soldiers have to face so much on the job. Being deployed to a foreign country, where you have to risk your life every day is no walk in the park. Staying away from friends and family can also be really difficult, especially when you need their support the most. A soldier who was deployed to Iraq, Ken Wyrsch, found love and support in a dog named Ollie. The stray puppy quickly won the hearts of every single soldier at the camp. They could not see the little street dog suffer, but began taking care of him. Ken took Ollie under his wing and raised him.

They became best friends. Ollie became an important part of Ken’s life and others in the army base. He was a morale booster. Time went by and the puppy grew up. Ken spent as much time as he could with his best friend. “He was there when we left our missions, he was there when we got back,” told Ken told. Their military base had raised Ollie since he was a little puppy. So it was really sad news for Ken when he found out that the military base would be shut down. He knew Ollie wouldn’t have anywhere else to go. He was certain that Ollie would not survive a harsh life street dog life, especially in a country where attitudes towards street animals were not favorable. So Ken knew he had to do something for the pooch.

This is the beginning of a whole new life

Ken was heartbroken and felt he could not let this happen. And Ollie was such a gentle and loving dog. He teamed up with SPCA International and requested Ollie to be brought back to the USA. It would be difficult, not to mention expensive, but Ken really did his best. One month later, and following generous donations, Ollie was finally able to go to the US and reunite with his friend.
