It’s one of life’s most beautiful truths: It’s a well-known saying that happiness is only real when shared… And in this video, there is more happiness than anywhere else! What could be more joyful than a bunch of fluffy, little kittens? The video captures the touching moment a mommy cat brings her tiny babies to meet an old friend, none other than a big dog of intimidating stature. The feline mother shows no hesitation in allowing the eager pup to get acquainted with her offspring — which she does with tenderness and the utmost care.

There is a long-standing rivalry between dog owners and cat owners, who claim that the two animals hate each other… But this touching scene is enough to change the collective imagination for the better! The mother cat shows absolutely no signs of worry or distress when leaving her newborns with the energetic pup. She doesn’t just hand them over and check out, though. First she and the dog subtly greet each other, using body language that’s likely familiar to anyone who lives with dogs or cats. The mother sits in front of the dog with a non-aggressive posture, letting herself be sniffed as one of her kittens approaches from behind. While her kitten is sniffed next, the mother doesn’t move — except to lightly paw and bite the dog’s face, which seems like a gentle reminder this is her baby, not a meal.

A certain level of familiarity and trust!

The dog and the kittens immediately get along like a house on fire, spending long moments playing and interacting with each other with great affection. The kittens, too, seem to relish in their canine aunt, who’s probably a bit more tolerant of their playful pawing than mom. The kittens seem to enjoy their avuncular babysitter. When the kittens tire of playing, the dog bounds over to their mother and goads her into picking up where they left off. She obliges, and they launch into a friendly sparring match that requires a certain level of familiarity and trust. I love the bit at the end when the two of them begin play fighting just like the old days. These two obviously have a very special friendship that will last forever!
