Woman Looking to Adopt a Pet From a Shelter Finds The Dog She Lost Two Years Ago
Emotional reunion (Video)
A woman has been reunited with her beloved pup, which she had lost two years prior, after stumbling upon him while searching for a new pet to adopt. Aisha Nieves was recently searching for a new dog for her two sons. She decided to look at the Lehigh County Humane Society’s (LCHS) adoption webpage when she spotted a pit bull-Rottweiler mix with a striking resemblance to her missing pet.
Kovu, Nieves’ dog, went missing two years ago after he escaped through a hole in the fence of her backyard in Pennsylvania. Nieves had desperately searched for him, but she didn’t know that weeks later, he was found by the LCHS in bad health. “He needed to be treated for fleas, was missing hair on his hind end and had inflammation,” said LCHS director of development Deirdre Snyder. “He was treated with antibiotics and bathed with a special medical shampoo. He was in our shelter for about four months and then adopted out to a family who renamed him ‘Ash'”
Back with his beloved family
But the family had to return Kovu after being evicted from their home recently. After this, Kovu reappeared on the humane society’s website, and Nieves spotted a listing that looked exactly like her dog. Nieves recognized a scar above the dog’s right eye, making her certain that it was Kovu. “As soon as he started coming, he started squealing and screaming and yelling and jumping on me, kissing me,” said Nieves. “I love him so much. I’m just so happy he’s back,” she added. After seeing her lost dog online, Nieves immediately called the shelter to verify she was Kovu’s original owner and reunite with the pup.
